A. Background Australia
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Indian oceans, Australia is a continent that became the political axis in Oceania islands in the Southern Hemisphere region. The population in Australia approximately 19.1 million people, occupying an area of 7,692,030 km2. Migration is still a determinant of population in Australia. In 1999, according to data held by the Bureau of Statistics, 24% of the population in Australia were born outside Australia and 27% of the population would at least have parents who were born outside Australia.
Until the 1960s, migration from Britain and Western Europe towards Australia still occurs, but this pattern is changing due to a nearby continent of Australia with the Asian continent and the increasing political role of Australia in the Oceania region. 7% of the population that there is an Asian native. It has been calculated that about 1 million natives living in Australia prior to the occupation by white men in 1788, and the indigenous community now consists of 2.2% of the population or about 427,000 people from the entire population of Australia.
Australia is a monarchy. Queen (who is the queen of England) is head of state. Australia has a federal legal system, in which power is divided into federal government that is democratically elected by the state government or territorial pemerinta. The federal government is known as the Commonwealth. There are six states, (ie New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania) and two territories which have special autonomy (North Territory and Australian Capital Territory, which is the seat of Commonwealth government). Australia also has a vast territory of eight, only three of them, namely Cocos Island, Nortfolk Island, and Christmas Island, are inhabited. Territory outside the largest is the Australian Antarctic Territory.
